State Awareness and Negotiation in the Era of Power Systems 4.0

The electric sector is moving towards Power Systems 4.0, with pervasive sensing, global asset interconnection by IoT technologies, big data, analytics and cloud resources, massive and intensive simulation and digital twins, artificial intelligence in closed loop, across all the value chain. New advances in pervasive sensing are discussed, and techniques for event recognition in real time based on deep learning are presented. A final discussion is approached, on flexibility in the TSO/DSO interface and practical case results from its implementation in Europe.

Resilient State Estimation in Simultaneous Different Time Scales Merging Data from PMUs to Smart Meters

With a pervasive presence of PMUs in transmission systems and appearing now in distribution systems, state estimation and system awareness functions must be redefined. Data vectors popping at one per cycle convey much more information that classical SCADA measurements. It is therefore a waste to continue running classical state estimation procedures and ignore all the new information available. The talk describes new approaches to extract knowledge and maintain a continuous tracking of the system states, at the rhythm of PMU data generation, while fully exploiting the information contained in other measuring devices, in different time frames, from classical SCADA measurements to smart meters and even from other sources such as historical data. The information fusion is processed in different time scales, resorting to correntropy Kalman filters and Bayesian inference, as well as classical estimation, in processes that can be made strongly resilient to bad data and robust in the case of cyber attacks or injection of malicious data.
