About

In 2008, former IEEE PES President, Wanda Reder announced at the IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution Conference in Chicago, Illinois the new name of PES – Power and Energy Society. This day has been officially commemorated as “PES Day” for the past three years. Every year, a theme is selected, and celebrations, including educational and humanitarian activities, youth programs, and technical contests, are organized for our members. Usually, all chapters unit and organize activities during the Month of April to celebrate this event. PES Day goal is to engage the PES volunteers with PES history and 5 PES pillars of the “More Power to the Future” vision:

• Advancing global participation
• Educating the Future Workforce
• Industry Activity Trends
• Standards Leadership
• Participating in Regulatory Initiatives

The PES Day serves as a platform for ambassadors and volunteers to showcase their initiatives, propose new ideas, and strengthen the integration of students, young professionals, and experienced members, ensuring that PES continues to grow as an inclusive and dynamic global community. The PES Day Awards & Contests aim to recognize and celebrate the dedication, creativity, and leadership of our ambassadors, whose efforts drive the success of PES Day worldwide. IEEE PES Career Compass on vFairs
The IEEE PES Career Compass serves as an integral tool for our mentoring and career fair initiatives, and now PES Day. Ambassador submissions selected by the PES Day team will be hosted in the PES Career Compass Auditorium and Round Table session. This platform offers extensive flexibility, fine-tuned through various virtual events to ensure a consistent style, functionality, and user experience across all event types.

Key Features of the Platform:

• • Auditorium: Capable of hosting both live sessions (with Q&A) and pre-recorded content. The schedule, including links to any pre-recorded content, will be crafted and managed by the PES Day team.
  • Roundtable Meetings: Host up to 20 concurrent live roundtable sessions, accommodating two hosts and up to 20 attendees each.
  • Optional Photo Booth: Attendees can capture photos with PES and PES Day-themed borders, coordinated by the PES Day team.
  • Multilingual Support: Available in seven languages via a pull-down menu for global accessibility.

• Global Online Registration: Options for single sign-on (SSO) integration are available. Early coordination is essential if SSO is desired to ensure implementation by April.

• What are the responsibilities of an IEEE PES Day Ambassador?
  Ambassadors must organize at least one event focusing on the PES Day theme between April 22nd to April 24th, 2024. They are also required to report on their event through this link.
• Is it mandatory to be an IEEE PES Member to become a PES Day Ambassador?
  Yes, it is mandatory since IEEE PES Day is focusing on increasing the number of IEEE PES members, so only active IEEE PES members are eligible to apply as Ambassadors.
• How can I apply to be an IEEE PES Day Ambassador?
  You can apply by submitting your application through the Call for Ambassadors form. Be sure to review the eligibility criteria before applying.
• Can professionals also apply for the Call for Ambassadors?
  Yes, professionals can apply. However, there will be only one Ambassador per IEEE Organizational Unit (OU) such as an IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter, IEEE PES Section Chapter, or any other IEEE OU.
• Are there any recognition programs or certificates for PES Day Ambassadors?
  Yes, Ambassadors will receive certificates of recognition for their efforts in organizing PES Day events.
• Can PES Day events be virtual?
  Yes, events for IEEE PES Day can be virtual. Virtual events help increase global participation and accessibility for individuals but we are hoping and expecting our Ambassadors to conduct more in-person and hybrid events.
• Will there be any funding provided for PES Day events?
  Yes, the events will be funded up to $300 being supported by the IEEE PES Membership Development Committee.
• Can I collaborate with other organizations or universities to host a PES Day event?
  Yes, collaboration with other organizations, universities, or institutions is encouraged to expand the reach of PES Day events and bring diverse perspectives to the discussions.
