Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Students enjoy special IEEE and PES membership discounts. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. 

To join PES as a student member you must first be an IEEE student member. You can join PES with an Essential Membership for only US$1.00 per year.

If you’d like to receive to receive print version of IEEE Power & Energy Magazine, consider joining with the Preferred Package, only US$18 per year as a student member.

Want to form a PES Student Branch Chapter? It's easier than you think:

Creation of a PES Student Branch Chapter requires:
  • An IEEE Student Branch is required to establish a PES Student Branch Chapter.
  • Signatures of at least six (6) IEEE Student Branch members, who are members of PES.
  • A Faculty Advisor, who is also a member of IEEE and PES.
  • The name and address of the Student Branch Chapter organizer (who will serve as interim Chair pending election of a regular Chair at a later organization meeting).
  • Completed and approved petition.

  • IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative – available for undergraduate students in the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, Italy & India – annual deadline – 30 June
  • IEEE PES Erich Gunther Future Power Innovator – A scholarship for a full time student attending a U.S. university or college that offers courses in power engineering.  Individuals must be in their final two years of receiving their Bachelor’s degree or working towards achieving their Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Annual deadline – 30 June
  • IEEE PES G. Ray Ekenstam Memorial Scholarship – recognizes an undergraduate student who is an honorably discharged US Veteran seeking an electrical engineering degree in the field of power or a related discipline. Application process conducted in conjunction with IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative –  Annual deadline – 30 June
  • The IEEE Power & Energy Society is pleased to offer access to the approved PES logo, social media guidelines, and marketing templates for your chapter’s use.
  • The logo should be used to customize locally purchased merchandise for your events and appreciation efforts.
  • PES does not have merchandise available for distribution to chapters.

PES Student Congress

The PES Student Congress is an opportunity for student leaders from various student branch chapters to get together to discuss best practices, share experiences, listen to and participate in technical talks, and to interact with senior PES leaders and volunteers. IEEE PES Student Congress is a word-wide event whose mission is to exchange knowledge among students and professionals with a focus on technological diffusion, enhancing the learning of extra skills in specific areasof practice.
