Aftab Khan

Aftab is Executive Vice President of Operations, Planning & Security for the PJM Interconnection. He oversees PJM’s grid operations including 24/7 bulk electric system operations and supporting real-time systems, PJM’s planning function including resource adequacy planning, generation interconnection planning, interregional planning and transmission planning, and PJM’s Security function including cybersecurity and physical security, as well as business continuity, facilities, and identity and access management.

Prior to joining PJM, Aftab was Senior Vice President of Engineering for Eversource Energy where he was responsible for Electric Transmission & Distribution System Planning, Capital Planning, Asset Management, Engineering & Design, Standards, Grid Modernization, Control Room Support, and Vegetation Management. Previously he held various leadership roles with GE and ABB providing products, projects, and services to the electric utility industry. These leadership roles included engineering, operations and general management roles for High Voltage Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Power Cables, EPC substations, Power Systems Consulting, and HVDC & FACTS solutions.

Aftab holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alaska – Fairbanks, a Master Degree in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a MBA degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He has authored several technical publications and holds 5 U.S. patents.
