Piscataway, N.J. – IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, today announced the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with multiple universities, including College of Electrical and Power Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Hunan University, School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Wuhan University. These MOUs were signed at the inaugural IEEE PES International Meeting in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China during the Opening Reception on Monday, 19 January 2026.
Hunan University, Harbin Institute of Technology School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Wuhan University, the College of Electrical and Power Engineering at Taiyuan University of Technology, and the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, in partnership with IEEE PES, share a collective commitment to advancing global collaboration in the power and energy sector.
Together, they seek to foster long-term, stable, and mutually beneficial relationships through academic exchange, research collaboration, talent development, and collegial peer-to-peer engagement. These institutions are united in their interest in participating in IEEE PES-led international initiatives focused on power and energy, with particular emphasis on renewable energy and related emerging technologies. Through this collaboration, they aim to promote academic innovation, technological advancement, industry-university-research cooperation, and the sharing of knowledge and best practices, while contributing to the development of future engineering leaders and supporting the global transition toward a more sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon energy future.
The MOU was officially signed into order by Tim Licitra, IEEE PES Executive Director, and representatives from the universities, highlighted below. “IEEE PES is excited to enter a collaboration with the select academic bodies,” said Licitra. “Together we have an opportunity to increase collaboration to drive value for our respective members and the industry at large.”
Representatives from the partner universities highlighted a shared commitment to advancing international collaboration in power and energy research, education, and innovation. Zhikang Shuai, Dean of the College of Electrical and Information Engineering, Hunan University emphasized the importance of bringing together “academic excellence and global influence” to create “a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy future.” Xuerong Ye, Dean of School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Harbin Institute of Technology noted that the partnership provides “great chance[s] to cooperate with more partners,” particularly in advancing “Novel Power System[s] for Cold Regions.” Fuping Zeng, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering, Wuhan University described the agreement as a catalyst for “global cooperation in power and energy engineering” through “resource sharing, joint talent training and technological innovation in renewable energy.” Yinke Dou, Dean of College of Electrical and Power Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology highlighted the value of “sharing academic resources, strengthening talent training, and exploring new paths for technological innovation in the power and energy sector.” Chongqing Kang, Dean of Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University emphasized the partnership’s role in “advancing high-level personnel exchanges and academic collaboration,” while enabling access to “high-quality resources in the global power and energy field.”
