About the Award

The IEEE PES Robert Noberini Distinguished Contributions to Power Engineering Professionalism Award was established to honor PES members in the power engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the areas served by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES). Contributions to professional activities can include volunteer work in furthering the goals of professional development webinars and videos, women in engineering, life members, ethics, history, students, social responsibility in engineering and design, and legislation that benefits engineers, IEEE K-12, STEM programs and activities, and other active IEEE programs focusing on professional activities. Contributions can be made to the PES community, the IEEE community or to the general public. Specific details of the candidate’s contributions must be included in the nomination.

Award Details

Purpose:

To honor PES members in the power engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the areas served by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES). Contributions to professional activities can include volunteer work in furthering the goals of professional development webinars and videos, women in engineering, life members, ethics, history, students, social responsibility in engineering and design, and legislation that benefits engineers, IEEE K-12, STEM programs and activities, and other active IEEE programs focusing on professional activities. Contributions can be made to the PES community, the IEEE community or to the general public. Specific details of the candidate’s contributions must be included in the nomination.

Prize:

US $2,000 USD and a Plaque for a single recipient. Travel subsidy of up to US $1,500 USD for a recipient to attend the presentation ceremony, to be paid as a reimbursement after an IEEE Expense Report is submitted. All IEEE reimbursement policies and procedures will be followed.

Eligibility:

PES Member with the IEEE grade of Senior Member grade or above and are holding current (Active) membership.

No current members of the IEEE Board of Directors, IEEE PES Governing Board, PES Awards & Recognition Committee, the IEEE PES Robert Noberini Distinguished Contributions to Power Engineering Professionalism Award Committee, or IEEE staff may be candidates or nominate or endorse candidates for this award.

Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulations established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations.

Previous award winners are not eligible for substantially the same achievements (per IEEE Policies 4.4: An individual shall receive only one award for a given achievement, unless the significance merits a higher award, which may be given in the following year or thereafter.)

Presentation:

Presentation of the award shall be made by the President, IEEE PES at the PES General Meeting Awards Ceremony.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Nomination forms must be written in English. One per year. If no suitable candidate is proposed in a given year, the award will not be presented for that year.

PES, being one of IEEE’s Organizational Units, follows IEEE Policy 4.4H:

  • Eligibility and Process Limitations. Individuals serving on any board or committee involved at any stage of the recipient selection or approval process for an award shall be ineligible to receive, or act as a nominator or reference for that award. This conflict of interest limitation shall apply to all awards given by the IEEE or any of its organizational units
