The IEEE 4th EI2 2020 | Women in Engineering / Women in Power: Encourage and Empower Women Engineers, for the Diversity and Innovation
On the morning of November 1st, 2020, Women in Engineering/ Women in Power Forum was successfully held in Donghu International Convention Center in Wuhan during the IEEE 4th EI2 2020. The theme of the WIP Forum is “Encourage and Empower Women Engineers, for the Diversity and Innovation”. Chair of the IEEE PES WIP Li Ruomei , IEEE PES chair Frank C. Lambert, Zhou Xiaoxin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Honorary President of China Electric Power Research Institute, Vice Chair of IEEE PES TC Chen Hong, Vice Chair of IEEE PES YP Akar Simay , IEEE fellow, professor He Jinghan and other many well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad attended this Forum.
The forum was hosted by Li Ruomei, Chair of IEEE PES WIP and Chen Xia, Chair of IEEE PES WIP Wuhan branch. Professor Zhang Hui from Wuhan University delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and expressed congratulations on the opening of the conference, hoping that outstanding women could have the opportunity to stand on a broader platform, give full play to their potential in their professional fields and make greater achievements. Prof. Zhou Xiaoxin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dong Xuzhu from Wuhan University and Ni Ming, Chair of China Committee of IEEE PES attended the meeting and had a panel discussion.
Associate professor Chen Xia gave a speech on behalf of the committee. Dr. Chen welcomed and thanked all the experts and guests who attended the forum. She introduced the original intention of the committee, which is an academic exchange platform for strengthening the communication between female engineers and a regional organization established under the guidance of IEEE WIP (Women in Power).
Frank C. Lambert, Chair of IEEE PES, first gave an open speech. He believed that female engineers are role models for young women in modern times and their achievements have largely encouraged young women.
Professor Chen Hong gave a report entitled “Get Involved in IEEE Power and Energy Society”. She shared her 22 years of experience as a volunteer in IEEE PES from the aspects of publication, conference, community, committee and so on and encouraged all women to actively join IEEE Power and Energy Society.
Professor He Jinghan gave a report entitled “IEEE — An International Communication Platform” and shared her experience of being elected IEEE Fellow since 2007. She believed that women in the power and energy industry can play an active role in the technical activities of IEEE, promoting the development of IEEE and the industry as well as promoting our personal development.
Professor Ma Mingyao gave a report entitled “Friendly Interaction with Industry to Promote Research Output”. She put forward reasonable suggestions for women present from both work and life and encouraged them to make efforts for their goals with determination when facing choices and difficulties.
Professor Hou Hui gave a report entitled “Encourage and Empower Woman Engineers, for the Diversity and Innovation” the purpose of report. By giving examples of successful women, she analyzed the advantages of women at the same time she also pointed out some female character weaknesses to encourage women to keep independent, have self-confidence and realize the value of life.
The forum was successfully concluded with a profound summary by Li Ruomei, Chair of IEEE PES WIP. The speeches and dialogues of all the guests focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by female engineers at present, affirmed the contributions to the society and great achievements made by female engineers and put forward many constructive suggestions for young women and female engineers.
