The IEEE Power & Energy Society Is Pleased To Announce The Launch Of A New Magazine

The IEEE Energy Sustainability Magazine is financially fully sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy society and it will be published quarterly (print and electronic versions) with  the first issue published in May 2025.

The IEEE Energy Sustainability Magazine is dedicated to the dissemination of information and practices on all matters related to environmental sustainability and climate change, as they relate to electric power system operation and planning.  The prevailing sustainability topics will  address the challenges of climate change by advocating for strategies that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These include adopting energy-efficient technologies, promoting sustainable power generation resources, and supporting policies that limit carbon emissions. The prospective articles will also address the sustainable transitioning from non-renewable energy sources (such as fossil fuels) to renewable sources (such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power) as a crucial aspect of environmental sustainability, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigates climate change.  The concepts, technologies, and practices associated with all aspects of sustainability as they pertain to electric power systems from a technical perspective, which is in synergy with  business, environment, and social concerns will also find their home in this new magazine.

Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour has been appointed, for an initial period of three years, as the inaugural/founding Editor in Chief of the IEEE Energy Sustainability Magazine.

Dr. Mohammad Shahidehpour is a University Distinguished Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He also serves as the Bodine Chair Professor and Director of the Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation at IIT.  He has been the Principal Investigator of several grants and contracts on power system operation and control, smart grid research and development, and large-scale integration of renewable energy. His project on Perfect Power Systems converted the entire IIT Campus in 2013 to an islandable microgrid. He initiated CSMART (Center for Smart Grid Applications, Research, and Technology) at IIT for promoting the smart grid cybersecurity research and implementation, and enhancing the resilience of networked communication and control systems. He is also a member of the SPIKE Center in the Stuart School of Business at IIT, which is facilitating the design and the implementation of affordable microgrids in impoverished nations. Dr. Shahidehpour has received numerous accolades and IEEE awards for his technical contributions to power systems. He is an IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer and served earlier as the VP of Publications for the IEEE PES. He was also the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). He is also an elected member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

The further announcements, related to the launch of the magazine, call for contributions, appointments to the editorial board of the magazine, etc. will be coming shortly from the Editor-in-Chief  Prof Mohammad Shahidehpour.

The IEEE PES Publications Board is looking forward to your contributions to the magazine in whatever way you can contribute.
