Piscataway, N.J. – The IEEE Power & Energy Society Workforce Findings and Recommendations White Paper is now available for download on the IEEE PES Resource Center.
The white paper was prepared by the IEEE PES Workforce Initiative Committee. It examines workforce challenges in the power industry arising from the energy paradigm shift, climate change mitigation, global decarbonization efforts, and digitalization. In response to these challenges, the Workforce Initiative (WFI) began in 2022 to gather stakeholders to collaborate and discuss:
- Best practices and success stories
- Cross-fertilization actions
- Potential solutions and pathways for attracting and retaining talent
This white paper describes the Workforce Initiative’s high-level recommendations resulting from three years of pilot programs, solution exploration, panels, and webinars between 2022 and 2025, that apply to all segments of the electric power industry. The recommendations are prioritized based on the WFI team’s subject matter expertise and WFI program successes. Volunteers and industry leaders working in Sweden, North America, Honduras, Zimbabwe, Brazil, France, Italy, Belgium, Korea, New Zealand, and India contributed. Participants include, for example, university professors, a research and development manager, utility leaders, a union founder, and a manufacturing director.
