IEEE Power & Energy Society Announces Inaugural Summit to Advance a Reliable and Resilient Energy Future

Piscataway, N.J., April 11, 2025IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power & energy, announced it will hold the first-ever IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Summit: Achieving a More Reliable and Resilient Energy Future. Hosted by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), the Summit will run May 19-21 in San Jose, California. Throughout the three-day event, industry leaders, technical experts and IEEE PES members will convene to exchange insights on the major trends and leading practices that will influence the reliability and resiliency of tomorrow’s energy systems.

“Keeping pace with the increasing risk of extreme weather and growing energy demands requires bold action from the global energy community to build more reliable and resilient systems that can serve generations to come,” said Dr. Shay Bahramirad, President, IEEE PES and Vice President, T&D Engineering, PG&E. “This Summit is an important opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to advancing and scaling sustainable grid solutions.”

The inaugural Summit will focus on practical solutions the power and energy industry can employ to achieve a more reliable and resilient electric power grid. Through a curated, single-track program, sessions, panels and exhibits will explore topics including:

  • Building foundational infrastructure
  • Deploying advanced technologies and analytics solutions
  • Designing reliability modeling and analysis
  • Managing capital investments
  • Understanding wildfire risk
  • Preparing for major weather events

Confirmed speakers include leaders from IEEE PES, PG&E, Microsoft, Quanta, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and more across 10 panels during the three-day event.
