Piscataway, N.J. – IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announced today that the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) have renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to continue to strengthen collaboration, enhance knowledge sharing, and amplify their impact on the global power and energy industry.

The PES/CIGRE MOU was officially signed into order by Shay Bahramirad, IEEE PES President, and Konstantin Papailiou, CIGRE President. “The challenges facing our electric system are growing more complex, and the innovations needed to power our future will not be solved by organizations working alone,” said Shay Bahramirad, IEEE PES President. “The continuation of this strategic CIGRE partnership gathers the world’s brightest minds together to work towards the breakthroughs we need to transition towards a more reliable and resilient energy grid.”

Papailiou said, “The renewal of our partnership with IEEE PES reaffirms CIGRE’s commitment to collaboration and innovation in the global electric power community. Together, we will advance knowledge and accelerate the energy transition.”

Under the renewed MOU, the two organizations will continue to align their efforts through:

• Joint Working Groups to co-develop and publish technical reports and white papers
• Co-hosted conferences and events, such as the Smart Grid Synchronized Measurements and Analytics Conference (SGSMA)
• Collaborative educational and outreach activities to engage industry professionals and the next generation of power engineers

CIGRE and IEEE PES recognize the importance of sustained collaboration in advancing knowledge and innovation within the energy sector. This renewed partnership builds upon their long-standing relationship and shared vision for a more connected, efficient, and sustainable energy future.
