2025 IEEE Power & Energy Society Election Results

Piscataway, N.J., October 07, 2025 — IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) is pleased to announce the results from the 2025 IEEE PES Election for the following 2026/2027 IEEE PES Governing Board roles. The results were compiled based on votes collected from qualifying IEEE PES members.

The following elected individuals will start their roles on 1 January 2026.

President-Elect: Bikash Pal
Secretary: Mazana Armstrong (2nd term)

Bikash Pal

Imperial College London

As Commonwealth scholar, I obtained PhD from Imperial College London.  My research in electric energy system stability and control are sponsored by power companies, UK and European Research Council. I led three multi-university research consortia between UK, China and UK India. My research group has received 2016 Imperial President Award for Outstanding Research. The research outcome of my team is put in practice by Siemens and GE. United Nations have consulted me for solving technical problems in power transmission.  I have graduated 32 PhDs, published about 135 IEEE journal papers, and co-authored four books.

Mazana Armstrong

British Columbia Hydro, BC, Canada

Mazana Armstrong is the Manager of Transmission Stations Engineering Division at BC Hydro. She has close to 30 years of professional experience in operations, maintenance, and design of high voltage electric power systems. Mazana’s professional contributions include standards development addressing electrical safety of the public, power utility workers and facilities in close proximity of electric power systems. 

Dean Sharafi

Australian Energy Market Operator, Perth Australia 

Dean Sharafi is the Strategic Advisor on energy transition at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). Dean holds a degree in Applied Physics, a degree in Electrical Engineering and a degree in Business Management. He has over thirty years of experience in power system engineering which includes Power System Protection, High Voltage Systems, Asset Management and Power System and Electricity Market Operation.

As a result of this election, we obtained a response rate of 22.55%, which is an increase of 3.47% from 2023, which was 19.08%. This is the highest response rate from the last five elections. Below is the high-level breakdown:

  • Total Ballots Distributed: 29,685
  • Total Ballots Received: 6,693 (22.55%)
  • Total Paper Ballots: 94 (0.32%)
  • Total Web Ballots: 6,599 (22.23%)
