Since 1964, through the IEEE Fellow Program, IEEE has acknowledged those individuals who have contributed significantly to the advancement of engineering, science, technology, and society at large. Recognizing the achievements of its members is an integral part of the mission of the IEEE; “Advancing Technology for Humanity”. Only one-tenth of one percent of the voting membership of the IEEE can become an IEEE Fellow, each year.
The Nominee must be an IEEE Senior or IEEE Life Senior Member in good standing who has been an IEEE member for a cumulative five years (1,825 days) or more preceding 1 January of the year of elevation. Note: IEEE Society Affiliate membership does not apply. The nominee cannot be a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, a member of the IEEE Fellow Committee, or an IEEE member who is prohibited from publishing in IEEE publications. The nominee cannot self nominate.
The nomination period for the 2026 class of IEEE Fellows begins in November, and ends February 7, 2025. PES is looking to increase the number of nominations from our society for the 2026 class of IEEE Fellows, particularly in the recently added Standards category. Review the Fellow nomination resources for information on nominations and get ready to submit in November.
For more information on the IEEE Fellow program, visit the IEEE Fellow webpage.

When IEEE Fellow nominations are submitted to the Power and Energy Society, the PES Fellow Evaluation Committee is responsible for the preliminary assessment of these nominations. Committee members rank and write reviews for candidates, which they present to the IEEE Fellows Committee, who then further evaluate the nominees. The FEC performs an essential role in the Fellow Evaluation process and IEEE Judges rely highly on their evaluations for an objective and technically informed assessment of the Nominee’s credentials.
For an explanation of the Fellow evaluation process, watch this video.
