Over the last few decades, we have witnessed a massive change in the energy landscape, with a massive shift towards renewable energy sources, mainly wind and solar. While the focus of this energy transition has been on replacing traditional generation with new and sustainable ones, it is now shifting towards the electric power system, the grid. The electricity grid is the key enabler to accommodate those new resources and at the same time also integrate new loads such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. This webinar will address the outlook of the future power system and how transmission system operators will deal with that with a case study from Elia, the Belgian TSO, and what this means for the transmission grid at the European level, with a view on the Ten Year Network Development Plan from ENTSO-E. The webinar will include a view on how this transition will influence the skills and workforce needed to succeed in realising the transition.
